BOOK HAUL (January 7 - February 7)

Notes

  • Professional Idiot: A Memoir by Steve-O was in the bargain bin at Barnes & Noble for $2. I can’t pass up a $2 hardcover. I already own it as a nook book.
  • The Psych books complete the series.

The Lightning Thief (PJO #1) ★★★

Let me start off by saying I did not dislike this book. Any negative comments I made are purely trivial things that I noticed while I was reading. Overall, the book was pretty good. A little slow going, a little out there, but the premise has a lot of promise and I think the first book in a series has a tendency to move a little slower than the other books. I will definitely be continuing onto The Sea of Monsters at some point this week.

Everything below the read more can be considered “spoilery” so please read at your own discretion.

Allegiant ★ ★

forthisonenight:

Alright, let me start this review by saying I did not give Allegiant two stars because of the ending, but rather because of the beginning and the middle.

I also want to include that this review will be very heartfelt for me. You see, my friend and I had always wanted to start a little book club but over the years it never really went well because we could never find the ‘it’ book. In 2012, Divergent became our ‘it’ book. Divergent brought me back into avid reading. For me, Divergent is a very powerful book and holds a piece of my heart. Divergent brought back my passion for reading and for that I am grateful. So while you’re reading this review, please don’t think of it as hateful or petty because it makes me sad that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. I hate that I wasn’t able to enjoy the book I had waited a year and a half(ish) for. But that’s not the point. The point is the Divergent trilogy is over and I want so badly to like it. But, I didn’t.

BOOK HAUL (December 30 - January 6)

Notes

  • The Hunger Games box set is a birthday present (Jan 6). I already own the books in hardcover and the first two in paperback, but I absolutely love the design and simplicity of these new covers so I really wanted them.
  • I already own City of Bones in hardcover, but as a huge fan of the series I wanted to get the MTI edition as well.
  • I absolutely hated Vampire Academy, but the movie looks promising so I bought the MTI. Maybe I’ll give it another shot?
